‘Overwatch 2’ Account Merging And Cross-Progression Explained - Forbes

berukcepat.blogspot.com

Believe it or not, we’re on the fast track to the release of Overwatch 2. Ahead of the sequel’s launch on October 4 — and Blizzard moving all Overwatch players over to it — Team 4 has revealed an important piece of the puzzle: how account merging and cross-progression work.

No matter what platform you play Overwatch 2 on, you’ll need a Battle.net account. When Overwatch 2 launches, you can merge your PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch accounts and have one profile for all of them. This will allow you to access all the cosmetics (skins, voice lines and so on) you have unlocked across the connected accounts.

You’ll also be able to share Overwatch 2 progress between platforms. For instance, if you play on both PC and Xbox, you’ll be able to level up your battle pass on each of them.

Starting today, Overwatch will ask you to select and confirm the accounts you want to merge when Overwatch 2 launches. Doing so now will ensure you’re ready to rock and roll on October 4.

Console players will see a prompt when they log in to Overwatch. An Account Merge screen will display all of your currently linked accounts. If you select the Switch Accounts option, you’ll see a QR code that you can scan with your phone. You can then enter a code shown on your console to create a Battle.net account or connect it to an existing one.

The next time you log in, you’ll need to confirm the correct accounts are linked to start the merging process.

Of note: if you haven’t verified your mobile number, you’ll be asked to do so through an SMS authentication process. Blizzard is requiring Overwatch 2 players to have a connected mobile phone number to help it battle smurfs and cheaters amid the free-to-play move.

You can also complete the account merging process on a PC through the Battle.net website, but you’ll still need a verified phone number. There’s a help page that provides more information on linking console accounts to Battle.net.

Pay attention, because this part’s extra important. You’ll only have one opportunity to fully merge accounts, so make sure you’re selecting the correct ones.

You can only merge one account per platform. I have multiple accounts on both PC and PlayStation (though I don’t really play Overwatch on PS5 anymore), so I’ll need to think carefully about which ones I’m merging.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that you can unlink a console account from Battle.net whenever you like. However, there is a one-year moratorium on linking new accounts to your Battle.net account.

After that time, when you link a new console account to Battle.net, you’ll be able to access the progression and cosmetics stored on the latter. But progress from the newly linked console account will not be transferred over.

Competitive play and skill ratings will still be separated between PC and consoles. If you merge several console accounts, you’ll retain the highest rank you’ve earned.

As for your stats, those will be “separated by input pool,” per Team 4 — possibly referring to using a controller vs. mouse and keyboard. When you merge multiple console accounts, values with a total (such as the number of wins and eliminations and total playtime) will be combined. Stats with a “best” value — like kill streaks or accuracy percentages — will use the highest number from your various console accounts.

Similarly, your highest endorsement level will be used. You’ll see in-game achievements that you earned from across platforms on your profile, but “console-specific achievements will remain on their respective platforms.”

Gameplay settings will stay the same on each platform. You’ll be able to access custom game options that you have saved on each platform, with your most recent presets being retained up to the maximum limit.

Your credits and Overwatch League tokens will be combined when you merge accounts as well. Any OWL tokens you have bought on Nintendo Switch will remain on that platform. However, items you buy with them will be accessible across platforms.

I hope all of that’s clear enough! If you’re unsure what to do at any point, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @krisholt and I’ll do my best to help.

Having access to all of the cosmetics I’ve unlocked or bought, regardless of platform, seems like a great reason to merge accounts. So too is the option to make some progress on the same battle pass I have on PC when I’m on my balcony, playing some Arcade games on Switch.

Meanwhile, the Overwatch Anniversary Remix Vol. 3 event is under way. You still have time to earn some loot boxes and add to your collection of cosmetics before Overwatch 2 launches. Remember that all of your Overwatch cosmetics will carry over to the sequel.
