Men's Hockey earns 3-2 OT win vs. Holy Cross - Rochester Institute of Technology Athletics - RIT Athletics

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior forward Elijah Gonsalves scored the overtime game-winning goal while grad-student forward Kobe Walker notched a goal and an assist in the Tigers 3-2 Atlantic Hockey victory over visiting Holy Cross, Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holy Cross scored the lone goal of the first period after Jack Ricketts collected a rebound off RIT sophomore goaltender Tommy Scarfone's pads and scored from close range with 9:15 on the clock.
  • After a scoreless second period, RIT got on the board with a power play goal 3:13 into the third. Holy Cross goaltender Thomas Gale knocked down a shot from the point by sophomore forward Tanner Andrew, but Walker tipped the loose puck over the goal line to knot the score.
  • The Crusaders retook a 2-1 lead with 12:30 left in the third after Tyler Ghirardosi got a puck past Scarfone during a scramble in front of crease.
  • RIT took advantage of a Holy Cross turnover off the forecheck to re-tie the game with 7:39 left in regulation. Junior forward Cody Laskosky got the puck in the right face-off circle and fed Walker in the slot. Walker dropped a short pass back to Laskosky for a short finish inside the right post.
  • In the three-on-three overtime, first-year forward Simon Isabelle beat a Crusader to a loose puck in the neutral zone to create a two-on-one break. Isabelle skated into the right face-off circle a crossed a puck to Gonsalves in the left face-off circle for the game-winner past Gale's blocker. 
GAME NOTES
  • Scarfone improved to 5-1 this season, totaling 32 saves for his third 30-plus save outing this year.
  • RIT took five out of six points from Holy Cross after opening the weekend with a 5-2 victory on Friday.
  • Laskosky extended his eight-game scoring streak to start the season, also scoring a goal in the season-opener versus Union and logging an assist the last six games entering Saturday's contest.
  • Isabelle scored a point for the fifth-consecutive game, notching goals in three straight games before logging an assist in both ends of the Holy Cross series.   
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT heads to AIC for an Atlantic Hockey doubleheader next Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 5-6). Faceoffs are scheduled for 1:05 p.m. and 3:05 p.m., respectively.
