BETHLEHEM, Pa.- Lehigh men's soccer pulled away with a 2-1 win over Holy Cross Saturday night on Senior night at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

"I"m really happy and proud of them," said head coach Dean Koski. "We didn't have a great first half. I thought we played a lot better in the second half - more inspired and more focused. It's also the first time we've gotten everybody healthy - this was the first game back for Thomas Robertson and Landon Bealer - we were able to use more of a bench because we have more players, and that makes a difference."

At halftime, Lehigh also honored its seven seniors.

"For our seniors, they've been through an incredibly tough four years dating back to the pandemic, " Koski said. "They're a wonderful group of men - they're going to go on and do great things in life. They've been the recipients of a tough four years, but they never quit, they show up every game, and they work hard. They played really well tonight. I thought Michael Laret stepped on the field and had a really good game for us. Hassane Diakho also had a really good game for us as a center back."

Lehigh is 3-9-5 (2-4-2 PL), and the Crusaders are 5-9-3 (2-4-2 PL). The Mountain Hawks needed a win in order to stay alive for the Patriot League Tournament as they were in ninth in league standings with five points heading into Saturday's game.

The first half would be a defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless.

Jon Klein opened the scoring in the 50th minute, which gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.

Perry Kingson responded just eight minutes later with a goal of his own. Beckett Wenger was driving towards the left side of the box, and he crossed it to Kingson, who headed it in for the goal.

Wenger did the same thing in the 79th minute, and Athanasios Cosse was there for the goal to give Lehigh a 2-1 lead. That goal was Cosse's first career goal.

Blake Koski had an incredible game in net for the Mountain Hawks, tallying seven saves, including a game-saving shot with a minute left in the game. Tristan Stephani had one save for Holy Cross.

Despite Lehigh being outshot 16-4, the Mountain Hawks were able to capitalize on their minimal shots.

The Mountain Hawks will close out the non-league schedule on Wednesday  against Bucknell at the Ulrich Sports Complex at 6 p.m. If Lehigh beats Bucknell, and Holy Cross beats Colgate on Wednesday, the Mountain Hawks will clinch a spot in the Patriot League Tournament.
