MADISON (WKOW) -- After last year's frigid temps forced the Red Cross to cancel its holiday blood drive, the event made its return today.
The blood drive happens every year at the Alliant Energy Center. Friday was the 38th drive.
The Red Cross says donations around this time of year are incredibly important and help save lives. Friday, the goal was 650 donations.
"This year, we really need folks to step up and come out and donate," Kyle Kriegl, Executive Director of Red Cross Southwest Wisconsin, said. "We always see a drop off in blood donations, whether it's from vacations or sickness."
WKOW is a proud sponsor of the event.
