WASHINGTON – The No. 6 Holy Cross football team completed its third 11-0 regular season in program history, defeating Georgetown by a score of 47-10 on Saturday, Nov. 19. 

Holy Cross (11-0, 6-0 Patriot League) is 11-0 for the first time in 31 years; the 2022 Crusaders join the 1987 and 1991 squads as the only teams to accomplish the feat.

The Crusaders also become the first team in conference history to clinch four straight outright Patriot League titles and have completed three consecutive undefeated league slates.

Holy Cross totaled 568 yards of offense. Junior quarterback Matthew Sluka threw for three touchdowns and a career-best 301 yards, while also rushing for an additional 77. Sophomore running back Jordan Fuller had three first-half touchdowns and totaled 76 yards on the ground. Senior wide receiver Ayir Asante had 137 receiving yards and a touchdown. 

On defense, the Crusaders held Georgetown to just 43 rushing yards. senior linebacker Liam Anderson recorded nine tackles, including a 10-yard sack, while also forcing a fumble. Junior cornerback Terrence Spence made five tackles and had two pass breakups. Senior defensive end Dan Kuznetsov recovered a fumble and had two tackles for loss, with a seven-yard sack. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Crusaders scored on their opening drive with a two-yard carry by Fuller, making it 7-0 with 9:25 left in the first. 
  • That lead grew to 14-0 when Sluka completed a 25-yard touchdown pass to senior running back Tyler Purdy with 6:56 left in the opening quarter. 
  • Georgetown got on the board after Joshua Tomas caught a five-yard pass from quarterback Pierce Holley to cut within 14-7 with 1:21 left in the first. 
  • Sluka threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Asante to extend the Holy Cross lead to 20-7 with 13:59 left in the second.
  • Fuller scored his second touchdown of the day on a five-yard rush with 8:09 left. 
  • Georgetown hit a 29-yard field goal to cut within 27-10 with 3:54 remaining in the second quarter. 
  • Fuller's third touchdown of the first half came with 22 seconds remaining, with a one-yard score making it 34-10 headed into halftime. 
  • That lead extended to 41-10 early in the third as Sluka found a wide-open senior receiver Spencer Gilliam for a 48-yard touchdown with 12:39 left in the frame. 
  • Senior running back Jordan Forrest had a two-yard touchdown carry with 4:13 to go.

  • The Crusaders have an automatic berth in the FCS playoffs and will find out their postseason fate on Sunday, Nov. 20.
