DALLAS, MARCH 21, 2023—Cities across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex will light up the night sky red in celebration of the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross as part of Red Cross Giving Day on Wednesday, March 22. This year the Markham Family Foundation and Sandy Nachman have each pledged to match up to $25,000 of donations or $50,000 combined during the week of March 20.

North Texas communities including Bedford, Euless, Hurst, Grapevine, Longview and Mansfield issued proclamations in support of Red Cross Month. Building partners across the Metroplex are also turning their exterior lights red, commemorating the compassion and support the Red Cross provides to individuals and families in need through disaster relief efforts and blood collection.

“The generosity of North Texans has made the Red Cross mission possible here for more than 110 years,” said Dr. Linda Braddy, Red Cross North Texas Region CEO. “From donating time and energy to gifting the Red Cross with a financial contribution, North Texans trust that we will be there when our community is in need. In just the last week, we responded to tornadoes in Irving, storm damage in Tyler, and home fires in Dallas, Fort Worth, Forney, Dimmitt and so many more. Volunteers stepped up to help just like financial donors do when they make a gift.”

Iconic Dallas buildings Omni Hotel, Reunion Tower, Hunt Headquarters, AT&T Discovery District, Bank of America Plaza, Comerica Tower, KPMG and One Arts Plaza, 17Seventeen McKinney, 1900 Pearland the Cotton Bowl will illuminate the Dallas skyline red.

In Fort Worth, Sundance Square, City Hall, Will Rogers Memorial ColiseumTower and Texas Christian University will be turning red. Arlington’s City Hall towers and Abrams Street sculptures will be lit red, along withLegacy West and the Toyota campus in Plano.

Red Cross Month is a national tradition started by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1943, he issued a proclamation honoring the commitment of the Red Cross, raising awareness of the organization and its humanitarian mission.
