PARKERSBURG — Journey to the Cross will be held from 6-8 p.m. April 7, Good Friday, at the Red Hill United Methodist Church.
Participants can come anytime between 6 and 8 p.m. to be guided through eight prayer stations while reflecting upon the journey to the cross with Jesus.
The program is based on “Remember Me,” a book written by Sharon Garlough Brown, with permission from the author. In this sequel to her book, “Shades of Light,” Katherine Rhodes, the director of the New Hope Retreat Center, finds her own grief tapped by her niece Wren’s struggles with depression and loss. Through a series of letters to Wren, Katherine reflects on the meaning of Christ’s suffering and shares her own story of finding hope.
With Katherine as a companion in sorrow, Wren makes a commitment to paint the Stations of the Cross for a prayer journey at New Hope, discovering along the way a deeper communion with the Man of Sorrows, acquainted with grief.
Using their prayer journey, participants are invited to accompany Jesus in His sorrow and suffering as He journeys from Gethsemane to Golgotha.
