PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Brown softball split its Tuesday doubleheader against Holy Cross as the Bears picked up a 9-1 win in Game Two. Annie Finch threw a complete game in game two for her first-career victory.

GAME 1: Holy Cross 2, Brown 1
The Bears held Holy Cross to just three hits but fell in game one 2-1 to the Crusaders. Brown finished the game with seven hits with Dara English picking up two but the Bears left six runners on base.

Brown had runners in each of the first three innings but were held off the board by Holy Cross. The Crusaders got on the board first in the bottom of the third.

With one out in the fourth, Julia Gubner singled and English doubled to put runners on second and third but the Bears could not get their first run across.

Holy Cross added another run in the bottom of the fourth to double its lead.

Brown had a chance in the seventh as Jadey Hagiwara singled with one out. Vanessa Alexander ran for Hagiwara and move to third after Cristina Barbella doubled off the wall in left field. Alexander scored Brown's lone run on a wild pitch as back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.

Erin Elgas went four innings for the Bears picking up two strikeouts. Jodie Aguirre threw two innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

GAME 2: Brown 9, Holy Cross 1
Annie Finch earned her first-career victory as the Bears closed out Tuesday's doubleheader with a 9-1 win over Holy Cross. Brown pounded out nine hits with two each coming from Nikki Tanguay, Jayme Gross and Vanessa Alexander.

Brown got on the board first in the top of the third. Jayme Gross started the inning with a walk and was moved to second on a sac bunt by Alexander. Jasmine Hsiao roped a doubled to bring home Gross on the next pitch to get the Bears on the board. After a pitching change, Niki Kim slapped one to third but was thrown out at first. Hsiao went from second to third on the throw and the throw back from first was wide, allowing Hsiao to hustle home for the second run of the game.

Holy Cross responded with a solo home run in the third and had a chance in the fourth after a leadoff double but Finch buckled down and got out of the inning.

The Bears' offense then exploded, putting up seven runs over the final three innings. The first two runs came in the fifth as Nikki Tanguay singled home Kim and Alexander.

In the sixth, Liv Kam singled and scored on a double to left center by Alexander two batters later. Alexander moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a bunt by Kim to put the Bears up 6-1.

Brown's first run in the seventh came on an error by Holy Cross that scored Meghan Gormley. Gross singled in the next at bat to bring home Katelynn Park, who had singled earlier in the inning. The final Brown run came as Alexander hit a grounder that brought home Kam.
